No. 2 Boston College men’s hockey falls to UConn

The No. 2 Boston College Eagles men’s hockey team (7-2, 2-1 ET) ended their six-game winning streak with a 5-4 loss to the UConn Huskies (6-5-1 , 3-4-1 ET). ) Friday evening.

The Eagles struck first with a goal from defenseman Aidan Hreshuck at 4:38 of the first period with help from defenseman Eamon Powell and center Jake Sondreal. Boston University entered the first intermission with a one-goal lead, but suffered a collapse in the second period.

UConn scored three unanswered goals midway through the game by forwards Hudson Schandor, Kaden Shahan and Tristian Fraser. After the third score, Eagles goalie Jacob Fowler was ejected from the contest for a major penalty for roughing and misconduct for throwing a punch. Jan Korec played in net for the rest of the game in place of Fowler.

The Eagles cut their deficit in half 31 seconds into the third period with a power play goal from right winger Ryan Leonard, but UConn responded with a goal at the 9:05 mark from defenseman Thomas Messineo.

The final two minutes of the contest was a back and forth battle with the Huskies emerging victorious. Eagles left winger Andre Gasseau and Hreshuck both scored goals during that span, but the Huskies added a final score to the board with an empty-net goal from forward Ryan Tattle with less than ‘one minute to play to ice the match.

Next, Boston College remains on the road to face Providence on Tuesday night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
