The University of West Sydney, Australia, wants to establish an agricultural university in Bangalore.

A delegation from the University of West Sydney, Australia, led by Consulate General McGeachy, held a discussion with Higher Education Minister MC Sudhakar on Friday on the establishment of an agricultural university in the state.

“The university wants to establish an agricultural university in India and is considering establishing one in Bangalore,” said Chancellor George Williams.

Topics such as the application of water management technologies in agriculture and food processing, among others, will be prioritized, he said. The university has also expressed interest in partnering with other public universities in Karnataka and has requested a space of 30,000 square feet to set up the university.

Speaking after the event, Minister Sudhakar asked them to work in collaboration with agricultural universities. He also said that if new innovative subjects related to agriculture were introduced using the basic facilities of our agricultural universities, it would be beneficial for the students. “Exchange programs through training and faculty exchanges will have more academic impact and enhance mutual learning,” he said.

Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh advised the delegation to think about setting up the university outside Bangalore and also give 50% reservation to students from the state.
