So I’m caught up on season 2 of Shrinking, and Brett Goldstein’s character has officially broken every part of my heart

Contraction Season 2 was released as part of the TV schedule 2024and for once, I’m finally caught up in time to continue watching each week – and I’m pretty sure Brett Goldstein’s character broke me… in a good way.

Let me start by saying that I am this show’s biggest supporter. I was a fan of Contraction since it came out and I really like it. When I discovered Brett Goldstein, one of the co-creators of the series, would be a character in season 2, I was excited. But never in my wildest dreams did I expect this to be who he is.

If you need to catch up Contraction, avert your eyes! But if you’re caught up, keep reading.

So overall, Shrinking season 2 is as good as season 1

I’m always worried when a major comedy-drama is renewed, because sometimes the series starts to lack quality as it goes on. There are many I could name, but honestly, Contraction Season 2 is as good as the first season, if not better.

The whole Contraction casting I feel like family now, and they work well together, with some really interesting stories and moments that still make me sob one moment and laugh the next. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve already cried in the six episodes that have been released – and I’m sure that will only increase.

But do you want to know what the important source is? Goldstein’s character, which we will now discuss.

I didn’t know who Goldstein’s character would be, but I didn’t expect who it would be

I’m sure if you know Apple TV+, you know Brett Goldstein. He has appeared in several films, but people mostly know him from his time in the Ted Lasso casting and now as co-creator of Contraction alongside Bill Laurent And Jason Segel.

But now he is also part of the Contraction casting, and I want you to make a crazy guess about who he’s playing – and you won’t get it because I really didn’t.

Goldstein plays the man who killed Jimmy’s wife and Alice’s mother – the drunk driver named Louis. Literally anyone he could have played, I didn’t reasonably expect that. I thought he would just be another client of Jimmy’s. The gasp I let out could be heard from apartment to apartment.

But that’s not the point. We now have Goldstein as Louis, but where could they take his story? How could they make the person who killed Jimmy’s wife sympathetic? Well, they succeed.

It’s tragic what he did, but the show makes you think about the other side of things in a great way

I want to come out and say that it’s horrible what happened to Tia (Jimmy’s wife and Alice’s mother). Obviously, don’t drive drunk, otherwise it could lead to something like this. It’s a terrible decision to make, and I’m sure we all feel some reaction towards it.

But I will say that Contraction really takes you to the other side of what’s going on with people who cause the tragedy. Sometimes, yes, he’s just a horrible, reckless person who makes really terrible decisions and doesn’t care about anything else.

However, there are other times, like Louis, where their life is “dark,” as Brian put it. We don’t know exactly what Louis experienced that led him to drink and get into his car. To us, he’s just the man who hit Tia, the man who caused her so much pain.

However, it really makes you think about how much pain and suffering a person has to go through that leads them to make terrible, horrible decisions, and we don’t know anything about it. And you can tell from the moment you meet Louis that he is while going through her. I can’t help but feel bad for him, even after what he did.

Additionally, his character shows the capacity for forgiveness in many ways.

This is what made me sob, especially in episode 6: the idea of forgiveness.

Forgiveness, in therapy, is something that (as a person who has been in therapy) is difficult to achieve. Trying to forgive the people who have wronged you the most in your life is a huge test of strength, but something that can very rarely be done. And personally, Louis was right – Alice had every right to never forgive him, even if he was so sorry thinking about his mother every day, that he was going through something horrible.

But then she says it: “I forgive you. » She wants to be the kind of person who does that because it’s something her mother would do. Riley Utley from CinemaBlend himself spoke to the actress behind Alice, Lukita Maxwellabout the moment and Alice is trying to learn to be compassionate despite everything:

I mean, she says it at the end; It’s something his mother would have done. I think she’s a young woman trying to figure out who she is in this world and who she is on the other side of this great heartbreak that has affected her life at this point and will forever. And she wants to be that kind of person who would forgive someone and be able to go through life with compassion and understanding.

That is the kind of writing that really makes you think when you watch it. It makes you sit on the couch, wondering if there’s anyone in your life you could forgive to help you move on. This is what Brett Goldstein’s character brought – pardon. I literally can’t stop sobbing about this.

It’s so beautiful to go from yelling and screaming at the man in an episode to learning to forgive and show compassion – it’s a stunning message and one that this world desperately needed.

I’m not sure what’s going to happen in the future with him, but I sincerely hope to see him and Jimmy talk too

I don’t know what will happen next with Louis. There have already been many Contraction that we saw – this big confrontation in the cafeJimmy yelling at him and more. Who knows what the next episodes have in store for us?

But all I can really ask for is to see him and Jimmy talk like he and Alice did. I don’t know if Jimmy is going to be as emotionally transparent as Alice and forgive her instantly, or even listen to her as much. However, seeing them have a conversation, even if Jimmy isn’t yelling, would be nice.

Spreading this message of forgiveness is so important, and while I’m sure there are many ways this show could have done it, Goldstein’s character was the absolute standout. best solution they could have chosen. For this, I thank Apple TV+. I don’t think I’ll ever be the same. This is why this show is one of best Apple TV+ shows – because by the time you finish watching it, you honestly think differently.
