Squatters occupy luxury spa and hotel in hopes of creating a ‘micro-nation’ | United Kingdom | News

Squatters are said to have occupied a luxury spa and hotel and claimed they planned to turn it into a “micro-nation”.

The £300-a-night hotel was once owned by Men Behaving Badly star Neil Morrissey before going bust in 2021 due to ongoing financial problems.

According to locals, the group of intruders, led by Tom Wilkinson, took over the 21-room resort in Laugharne, Wales, and allegedly began throwing wild parties with friends arriving in minibuses.

Tom Wilkinson claims that his actions are intended to preserve a piece of history, suggesting that his efforts will be so remarkable that they will make the legend of Robin Hood credible by comparison.

The once-luxurious hotel, now occupied, has had its entrance blocked and its signage defaced, reflecting the disruption caused by squatters.

According to Companies House, the current owner of the property is Upper Street Holdings, a Seychelles-based company.

The group purchased the hotel in 2022 for less than £20,000, a surprisingly low price for such a location, possibly due to its condition or financial difficulties.

They have since taken legal action to Llanelli County Court to force the squatters to leave, naming “Mr Thomas Wilkinson, alias Tom Walk, and persons unknown” as defendants in the case.

In response, Wilkinson posted an image of the claim form on his Facebook page alongside a speech in which he claimed he was planning a £250,000 “counterclaim” against the owners for “security costs alone” .

He posted: “They really got into it. In relation to security costs alone my counterclaim is £250,000. £25 per hour x3 for 24 hours a day x5 months. If we added the renovation, maintenance and cleaning costs to the bill, the provider would essentially pay me.

Talk to The SunSandra Flaxman, 75, who runs a nearby campsite, claimed she was forced to padlock her showers and toilets, alleging it was because Wilkinson and his fellow squatters were secretly using them.

She claimed he drove his car into her lane to make her feel “intimidated.”
