Former EastEnders actress Cheryl Fergison has revealed she recently visited a food bank and admitted she was struggling to find enough money to eat.

The 60-year-old, who played Heather Trott from 2007 to 2012, spoke to Mirror how difficult life has been for her since she left Albert Square.

She said: “A lot of people can relate to it. You’re trying to find a penny. You’re literally looking at your sofa to see if you can find a pound.”

The actress was later encouraged by Citizens Advice staff to attend a food bank, to which she said: “One of the hardest things I’ve had to do. I found it so difficult to be so vulnerable.

“I sat there and cried and cried. It was shameful. How could I have been sure EastEnders? How did I make so much money and now I’m here?

Since his departure EastEndersCheryl ventured into a number of new ventures after failing to secure acting work.

She recently promoted tickets to an event called Cheryl’s Special £15 Weekend, where she offers a hearty meal, complete with a starter, main course and side dish and accompanied by a two-hour singing performance by her , for just £15 a ticket.

The planned event received a lot of media attention online, with some EastEnders fans tease: “The girl has to eat but come on, how the mighty have fallen Hev!”

She also explained that guests who wish to attend do not even need to pre-book their tickets, which is taking place at a Chinese restaurant in Blackpool, called The Great Fortune House.

In addition to this, Cheryl sells original products EastEnders scripts to make money. Prices were around £50 per script, with £5 added for postage.

The struggling actress has repeatedly explained in candid videos that she is struggling to make ends meet.

In one Instagram post, she said: “What I want to expose is the terrible misconception among the general public that we are all rich.

“This is way beyond the truth. I’ve been away from EastEnders for almost 13 years, actually longer than that – I left it in 2012.

“I’ve done jobs in between and I’ve done panto, I’m doing it this year but the jobs are a bit like… they’re continuous, it’s not like being in a soap all the time “
