Accugas Limited and Ibom Power disagree over power outages

Accugas Limited, a subsidiary of Savannah Energy, and Ibom Power Plant have continued to trade blame for power outages in Akwa Ibom State.

Power cuts paralyzed social and economic activities for three days in the state, culminating in the dismissal of the Managing Director of Ibom Power Station, Meyen Etukudo, by the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno .

The former general manager had, in a statement, reacting to the state’s electricity situation, blamed the non-supply of gas from Savannah Energy as one of the reasons for the outage.

He said: “Unfortunately, our gas supplier, Savannah Energy, recently sabotaged Ibom Power’s laudable efforts by cutting off gas supplies to the plant.

“This loss of gas supply coincided with a reported fault on the Itu-Aba 132kv transmission line that carries the national grid in and out of the state, hence the state-wide outage. State,” the former MD Ibom powerhouse said.

But in reaction, the Communications Manager of Accugas Limited, Okwudili Onyia, in a statement criticized the claims of the sacked Managing Director of Ibom Power, stressing that the power situation was solely caused by the breakdown of transmission line 132 kv Itu-Aba.

He said: “Accugas wishes to strongly deny the misinformation regarding its alleged involvement in the current power outage in Akwa Ibom State.

“The power outage in Akwa Ibom State is entirely due to the reported failure of the 132 KV Aba-Itu transmission line, which unfortunately prevents the transmission of electricity from the national grid to the state.

“It is imperative that the restoration of the Aba-Itu line is completed as quickly as possible. Ibom Power Company is one of the 23 thermal power generation companies that transmit electricity to the national grid, which in turn broadcasts all the accumulated energy to each state of the federation through the distribution companies of electricity.

“Indeed, Accugas supplies gas to enable 20 percent of Nigeria’s thermal generation capacity and, as such, is a critical enabler of the Nigerian economy. In Akwa Ibom State, Accugas has been the sole gas supplier to IPC since 2014 and, along with other Savannah subsidiaries, has invested over $1.5 billion in gas development within the state. ‘State.
