Industry experts discuss the latest trends in automotive technology

More than 40 automotive experts based in Asia, Europe and North America gathered virtually to discuss the latest industry trends on November 9-10.

The gathering, organized by the World Alliance of Overseas Chinese Automotive Engineering Societies and co-organized by seven Chinese automotive engineering associations from Austria, France, Germany, Japan, America of the North and the United Kingdom, marked its fourth session.

This year’s event focused on interactions between Chinese vehicles and global markets, with panel discussions on intelligent driving technology, the hydrogen economy, solar photovoltaics and batteries, recycling of electric vehicle batteries, and much more.

Faced with difficulties in exporting Chinese vehicles to foreign markets, participants also discussed upcoming opportunities and obstacles, particularly in the European market.

Data from China’s General Administration of Customs shows that China’s exports of electric vehicles to the European Union in the first half of 2024 decreased by 14.6% compared to the same period last year.

Despite the uncertainty, experts echoed the sentiment that the European market, with its demand for a transition to smart electric vehicles, is aligning with the strengths of Chinese auto brands, and that continued collaboration with companies and local institutions can help both parties better adapt to market developments.

“The export of Chinese automobiles started many years ago, not just today. So why are we only getting attention now? I think it’s because we are leaders in all fields , both in terms of technology and products,” said Zhou Xiaoying, CEO of Gasgoo, a Chinese company. information platform that reports the latest automotive news in China.

“Chinese cars are going global, but it’s no longer just about trade; today, many companies focus on localized operations. So I hope we can build more partnerships, working together to serve Chinese companies and contribute to the global automobile industry. I believe that the development of advanced industrial technologies should not be limited by geopolitical boundaries. It’s about creating better services for emerging markets and providing consumers around the world with high-quality experiences. That’s the true mission of the consumer goods industry,” she said.

Xu Hongming, chairman of the World Alliance of Overseas Chinese Automotive Engineer Societies and president of the Chinese Society of Automotive Engineers of the United Kingdom, expressed hope that the event could not only serve as a platform -form of exchange, but also become a driver of international cooperation.
He added that the alliance is committed to organizing more such events for industry insiders.
