Givaudan and Louisville officials discuss deadly coloring factory explosion with Clifton neighbors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Representatives from Givaudan Sense Color and Louisville officials met with community members affected by the recent explosion at a color factory in the Clifton neighborhood on Tuesday (Nov. 12).

Officials shared information about the Givaudan explosion which two dead and a dozen injured and heard directly from Clifton residents and businesses at the public meeting.

An explosion at the same factory occurred in April 2003, killing a worker.

Earlier Monday, November 18, federal investigators revealed origin of the factory explosion. This happened when cooking vessel number 6, which contained caramel coloring, broke down. Authorities say the air was not properly ventilated, causing overpressure and an explosion. The investigation is still ongoing.

During the meeting, Givaudan President Ann Leonard said the company would “prioritize” finding another site.
