Instagram moves forward with ‘reset’ tool for user feeds

Too often a curious teenager gets it wrong Instagram influencers or accounts and finds their feed flooded with similar suggestions.

This could have been a relatively harmless foray into content they don’t want to see all day, every day, like horror movie fan accounts. Or it could be something more dangerous, like influencers promoting eating disorders or certain conspiracy theories.

Now, teens will finally have a way to clean their feed of recommended content, based on their recent activity and who they follow. On Tuesday, Instagram announced that it was testing a “reset” feature.

The tool, which is expected to be rolled out globally after a short testing period, will be accessible in the content preferences menu. In three clicks, users will be able to clear suggestions for Instagram’s Explore, Reels, and Feed products. During the process, users will be asked to review and unfollow accounts that no longer interest them.

Teens won’t be the only ones to benefit from having their content recommendations reset, either. Instagram makes this feature available to everyone, apparently because a feed full of irrelevant or irrelevant suggestions isn’t just a problem for teens.

Instagram already allows users to organize their recommendations by labeling specific posts as “interested” and “not interested”, as well as hiding content with captions containing certain words or phrases.

Instagram has also launched other features related to teen safety and well-being in recent months.

In September he launched restrictive “teen accounts” for users under 16 years old. Last month, the tools announced by the platform combat financial sextortionwhich devastates the victims and largely affects adolescents.

Instagram parent company Meta accused in case trial against him and other major social media platforms. The complaint alleges that the companies’ products exploit children and adolescents, including exposing them to an “algorithm-generated endless feed” to make them scroll. Meta disputed these claims.
