Inheritance tax on agricultural land should exist again, at 20%, half the normal rate of inheritance tax, on land worth more than £1 million. Farmers can pass their land to their children in trust and would pay no inheritance tax if it was seven years before they died, but as the tax regime changes in 2026 some may not be able to do so.
