why the actress froze her eggs at 27

Florence Pugh explained why she decided to freeze her eggs last year.

The actress revealed that she decided to undergo the procedure after being diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and endometriosis, conditions that can make it difficult for a woman to conceive children.

Speaking to Dr. Thaïs Aliabadi and women’s rights advocate and influencer Mary Alice Haney on the She MD podcast, Pugh explained that learning of her conditions made her think about her future. Egg freezing, while often expensive and still uncomfortable, has become much more common in recent years among women in their 20s and 30s who, for whatever reason, are not yet ready to become mothers but want to keep that option open. This practice has become increasingly widespread in the United Kingdom; egg freezing and storage increased from 2,576 cycles in 2019 to 4,215 in 2021, an increase of 64% in just two years.

Recalling his experience, Pugh said: “I had this sudden feeling that I should go check everything out. I had had some strange dreams; I think my body was telling me.

She said that when she met Aliabadi, the doctor asked her if she had ever had her eggs counted.

“And I was like, ‘No, what do you mean?’ I’m so young. Why do I need an egg count? » Oppenheimer star explain.

The doctor then ran some tests and diagnosed the actor with PCOS and endometriosis, before advising her to freeze her eggs.

“It was so weird because my family is made up of baby-making machines,” Pugh said. “My mother had babies in her forties. My grandmother had babies all along…and then, of course, I learned completely different information, at 27, that I needed to remove my eggs and do it quickly, which was just a somewhat mind-boggling realization and one that I’m really lucky and happy to have discovered when I did because I’ve wanted kids since I was a kid.
