Jared Polis defends RFK Jr.’s surprise praise at HHS

Governor of Colorado Jared Polis (D) spoke with 9News, the NBC affiliate in Denver, this week to discuss his recent praise for Robert F. Kennedy Jr. join the president-elect that of Donald Trump cabinet to lead the Department of Health and Human Services.

Last week in Polis job to X that he was “excited” about Kennedy going to Washington to try to keep some of his promises about healthier eating. “He helped us defeat vaccine mandates in Colorado in 2019 and will help make America healthy again by shaking up HHS and the FDA,” Polis wrote, adding:

I hope he looks at personal choices about vaccines rather than bans (which I find terrible, as do mandates), but what seems most optimistic to me is tackling big pharmaceutical companies and agricultural oligopoly to improve our health.

Those comments raised eyebrows on the left and led Polis’ office to make clear that it did not agree with Kennedy’s spreading of conspiracy theories or vaccine skepticism.

9 News Reporter Marc Sallinger spoke with Polis about the criticism. “RFK is not a pharmaceutical lobbyist. As you said, he said and said a lot of falsehoods. Can he separate these incorrect personal beliefs from the work he does on chronic disease, nutrition, and fighting big pharma? » Polis told Sallinger.

“For the good of our country, I hope so,” added the popular Democrat.

“Do you think he will be able to do it?” Sallinger insisted.

“That’s a valid question,” Polis responded.

“Would you use this agency or your position to promote your personal beliefs, or will you use it for what you said you would use it for?” » Polis added later. “He said he would of course continue to authorize vaccines, but he wanted to use them to improve health, improve diet and nutrition, and take on big pharmaceutical companies.”

Sallinger explained in the segment that Polis hopes RFK Jr. will support some of his local initiatives. “The governor said Tuesday that Colorado has filed an application with the FDA to import prescription drugs from Canada. It has been filed with the FDA for a year now and has not been approved. He hopes RFK will lead the agency and they will approve the application and save the state money on prescription drugs. explain the journalist.
