The cold and windy weather persists!

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update

WBBJ 7 forecast update:

Winds picked up and temperatures dropped about 15° this afternoon behind the front that passed earlier in the day. Cold and windy weather will persist this evening and last through the work week in West Tennessee. We could get below freezing Thursday night and it seems likely most of us will Friday night. We’ll let you know when showers return and the latest news on upcoming frost here.

THIS WEEK:

The start of our work week in West Tennessee was warm but windy after a decent weekend. Monday’s record was 80° and we will be just below that but the entire region reached the mid 70s to start the week Monday. Clouds returned Monday evening and remained until Tuesday morning. Rain showers and a few thunderstorms will also mix in Monday evening and persist through Tuesday morning, with most seeing close to 1/2″ of rain. A few storms mixed in but we didn’t see any more severe weather. Clouds cleared during the day Tuesday, bringing back mostly sunny skies for most of the work week. A few clouds returned briefly Wednesday morning along the following front, bringing gusty winds and a temperature drop of 15°.

The cold and windy weather persists!

Temperatures were warm Monday evening due to clouds and wind. Winds came from the south early Tuesday and started out breezy before easing as the day progressed. Winds picked up around sunrise Wednesday morning and will be intense for the remainder of the work week. Lows only reached the 60s Monday night, but fell to around 50 Tuesday night. Monday’s front came from the west instead of the north, so it did not result in a big temperature drop, with temperatures still reaching the low 70s on Tuesday. Lows Wednesday evening will fall into the upper 30s, but with breezy winds the temperature will be near freezing in the morning. Please bundle up and make sure the little ones have their winter gear ready for Thursday and Friday.

Our second major cold snap of the fall appeared Wednesday morning. The front was mostly dry for us, but it brought increased clouds midday Wednesday as the front passed through before dissipating in the evening. High temperatures on Wednesday still reached the upper 50s to near 60, keeping high temperatures near normal for this time of year. The winds shifted from the west to the northwest and were quite breezy at times as the front passed. Winds will also remain northwest all day Thursday, with gusts over 30 mph possible late morning and early afternoon. Thursday’s highs will only reach the low to mid 50s, but Thursday night’s lows are expected to drop to the mid 30s. There is a chance of frost, but the most likely time That cold snap drops to temperatures below 30 degrees appears to be Friday night into Saturday morning. Regardless of whether it gets cold enough to freeze, frost appears likely Friday and Saturday morning in West Tennessee.

THE WEEKEND:

The weekend will begin with cool, near-freezing weather Saturday morning and high temperatures will only reach the 50s, just like Friday. Winds on Saturday will shift to the west during the day and return to the south on Sunday. This will start a warming trend Sunday afternoon, but Saturday night into Sunday morning will still be cold with morning lows Sunday in the mid 30s. Sunday night, minimum temperatures will only drop to around 50° due to the southerly winds increasing the dew point heading into next week. The sky will be mostly sunny on Saturday and partly cloudy on Sunday. The next chance for rain looks to be Monday and Tuesday of next week. Again, the system does not appear likely to cause severe weather, but we will be monitoring it closely as this system moves a little closer to our area.
