Robert Pattinson joins Christopher Nolan’s next film at Universal

Robert Pattinson teams up again with his “Tenet” director Christopher Nolan for the filmmaker’s closely guarded project at Universal Pictures, Variety confirmed. Pattinson joins an impressive ensemble that already includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway and Zendaya.

Universal and Nolan’s sequel to their Oscar-winning drama “Oppenheimer” is planning a production start date in the first half of 2025. Pattinson will be very busy in the new year. Warner Bros. is looking to film a sequel to its 2022 blockbuster “The Batman,” in which the actor would reprise his starring role as the DC Comics superhero. Pattinson also stars in A24’s “Primetime,” a thriller inspired by the reality show “To Catch a Predator” that will serve as the first narrative feature for rising filmmaker Lance Oppenheim. This independent plans to increase its production early next year.

Additionally, Pattinson’s next feature film, Bong Joon-Ho’s sci-fi comedy “Mickey 17,” is scheduled to hit theaters on April 18, 2025. The $150 million Warner Bros. production, which is the long-awaited sequel from the Korean author. — right up to his Oscar-winning film “Parasite,” will likely come with its own gauntlet of promotional obligations for Pattinson.

Pattinson starred alongside John David Washington in Nolan’s thriller “Tenet,” which marked the filmmaker’s final feature film at Warner Bros. after a long tenure at the studio that spawned beloved hits such as “The Dark Knight” trilogy, “Dunkirk” and “Interstellar.” Studio’s handling of ‘Tenet’ release during COVID pandemic Nolan’s strained relationship with his longtime home — a tension that ultimately led the director to settle at Universal for “Oppenheimer.”

In what has become a popular piece of Nolan history, Pattinson gifted a book of J. Robert Oppenheimer’s speeches to the director as a production closing gift after principal photography of “Tenet.” Two years later, it was confirmed that the director’s next project would be a biopic about the father of the atomic bomb.

Universal has set a July 17, 2026 release date for the project, which will hit theaters and Imax.
