New Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin today said he wants to deliver free, fair and credible elections to the nation.

“I will spare no effort to ensure free, fair and credible national elections,” he said while speaking to reporters at his residence this evening.

He said he would work independently and that their ultimate goal was to establish the people’s right to vote.

“I am confident enough. I hope I will get all kinds of support from everyone,” he said.

“I am not interested in knowing who nominated me, I will work independently. If I find out which party supported me and which did not, it could create bias, even unconsciously. Therefore , I am not inclined to find out.”

He said the activities of past commissions were lessons for them.

“We must learn from their mistakes and their actions which have been unpopular with the public. We aim to avoid these mistakes so that no allegations are made against us. Our ultimate goal is to establish the right to vote of the people,” he said.

He said all political parties want free and fair elections. There is no significant dispute in this regard. There is, however, some controversy surrounding one particular party.

“I do not wish to comment on this at this time. When election time comes, we will see and you will see. Our goal is to include everyone in the electoral process, but for now I m “Refrain from making any comments on this matter,” he added.

Nasir said that after meeting the other commissioners, he would serve on the electoral reform commission.

“After these discussions, I will identify the priorities: what needs to be done first and how quickly,” he added.
