Rolex has long been the catnip for thievesand reports of Rolex thefts have increased over the past two years. Crimes have been reported everywhere, since new York At California Bay Area has London and Paris. A new business, Okrosthink you have the solution to keep your Rollie on your wrist.

After French entrepreneur Sébastien Buonomo almost lost his Rolex GMT-Master II, gifted to him by his late brother, he designed a system to ensure that his precious heirloom would always remain in his possession. Alongside watchmaker Bruno Herbert, the duo invented Watch locka bracelet clasp with an integrated micro-locking system that effectively locks your timepiece. Made from 316 L 1.4441 stainless steel and fully assembled in Switzerland, the system uses a micro-locking system with a key. When the key is inserted, the folding clasp can be used in the classic way. When the key is removed, it closes the micro lock, effectively locking the clasp in place so there is no risk of someone grabbing it from your wrist without taking your arm with it. It also prevents losses when swimming, diving or other sports activities. THE Watch lock The system is currently available for Airking, DateJust and Daytona models.

This certainly seems like a good idea for those traveling to destinations known for widespread theft or any adventure-ready trip. The catch is that it costs 680 euros (about $708 at the current exchange rate). It’s a small price to pay to keep your $15,100 Daytona from being ripped off your wrist (especially when you factor in its aftermarket value). But the Watch lock system also requires a bit of DIY. The folding clasp is delivered with a Bergeon SA x Okros tool kit, including a screwdriver, a pump screwdriver, a 4x magnifying glass and a microfiber, as well as a 5 ml tube of Loctite 243 thread lock to optimize tightening and blocking of the screws when reassembling the Watch Buckle. It also comes with a smart and wise key fob for removing and securing the key (three in total are provided). For the average consumer, this is a lot of work. But on the company’s Instagram @okros_watchparts, it offers free installation at one of its distributors or watchmakers. Again, this is a bit of a downside. On the other hand, if you own an incredibly valuable Rollie, it might be worth it in certain circumstances.

Questions remain about the practicality of the product and we have sent questions to the brand that we have not yet answered. As one of my colleagues pointed out: “What happens if you’re traveling and forget the key at home?” Will you need to wear the watch all the time? That wouldn’t be fun, haha. In fact, you would put its watertightness to the test every day. Although it comes with extra keys, if you forget them while traveling, you will find yourself in quite a predicament. Still, Okros may be on to something here, and we’ll be curious to see if it catches on.
