How to extend taskbar to multiple rows in Windows 11?

In Windows 10, it was quite simple to resize your taskbar. All you had to do was click and hold one edge of the bar and move the cursor up. In Windows 11, this option is not yet available. Although Microsoft has visually redesigned the new taskbar, it hasn’t carried over all of the features from its previous iteration.

1) Use the Registry Editor

As a user, you can make certain changes to the Windows Registry to allow the taskbar to span multiple rows in Windows 11. This requires you to make specific changes in the Registry Editor.

Note: This method may not work for some users running Windows 11 24H2 or later. For later versions of Windows, you may need to resort to third-party solutions.

Warning: Proceed with caution when making changes to the Windows registry. The registry is an essential component of the operating system and incorrect changes can lead to system instability or malfunctions. Before making any changes, it is strongly recommended to backup your current registry settings. This ensures that you can restore your system if something goes wrong.

  1. Open the Registry Editor. You can do this by opening Run via “Ctrl+R“and typing”regedit» or by searching for the publisher via Windows Search.
  2. Go to
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Explorer > StuckRects3
  3. Click Settings. This will open a binary value editor dialog box.
  4. Locate the row corresponding to the value data 00000028column FE. Change the value of 01 has 02. This indicates the row number of your taskbar.
  5. Click OK and restart Windows Explorer from Task Manager to apply the changes.

2) Patch Explorer

Explorer Patcher is an open source solution for extending your taskbar to multiple rows. It replaces the existing taskbar with that of Windows 10, which then allows it to be easily resized.

  1. Visit the Explorer Patcher GitHub repository.
  2. On the right side, under Versions, click Latest Version.
  3. Click on the ep_setup.exe file to download the tool.
  4. After downloading, launch the program. Your taskbar will go black for a while.
  5. Once the Windows 10 taskbar appears, right-click on it and uncheck “Lock the taskbar.”
  6. Click the top edge of the bar and drag up to resize the bar.
