Gladiator II received a mixed reception at the Chinese box office, although the film grossed winners in some regions of the world. It’s even below The Beekeeper and Shazam 2. Denzel Washington is the most praised in the ensemble cast led by Paul Mescal. Scroll below to learn more.

For the uninformed, it is the sequel to Ridley Scott’s 2000 historical action drama. It was one of the highest-grossing films of 2000. It was also a critical success, winning five Academy Awards, including that of the best film. Russell Crowe won the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his role as Maximus. Paul plays Maximus’ son in the sequel and also received good ratings on Rotten Tomatoes.

According to Luiz Fernando’s report, Gladiator II only collected $858,000 Friday when it is released in Chinese cinemas. It played in over 43,000 screenings, more than the opening collections of The Little Mermaid, Indiana Jones and Dial of Destiny. The Little Mermaid won $540,000and the Harrison Ford-directed film collected $810,000.
