Caleb Williams and Rome Odunze discuss their special bond

In the 2024 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bear used its two first-round picks for its offense with quarterback Caleb Williams with the first pick and wide receiver Rome Odunze with the ninth overall pick. The connection between the two hasn’t been perfect, as Odunze has been behind veteran star receivers DJ Moore and Keenan Allen, while the offense as a whole has struggled with Shane Waldron as offensive coordinator.

In a move that seemed necessary, the Bears fired Waldron and named Thomas Brown as their new offensive coordinator, leading to an immediate turnaround in his first game against the Packers. Although their comeback effort fell short in last week’s loss, Williams connected on a fourth-and-3 pass to Odunze for a 21-yard gain, not only keeping the team alive on the final drive of the match, but putting them in a position to potentially win the game.

This week, Williams and Odunze spoke to the media about their relationship, knowing it could improve given their situation this season.

“I think we’re just in the initial phase, the infantile phase of this,” Odunze said. “I have big aspirations, big dreams and big goals. Watching some of the best quarterback receiver duos is something that adds to my goals, along with Caleb. We have to win the Super Bowl together, we We have to do big things. A fourth and three takes are very low on the list.

Williams was incredibly complimentary of Odunze and the plays he made in their first ten games of their respective NFL careers.

“Rome made plays for me over and over again,” Williams said. “I think it’s just spending time, playing video games with each other, communicating, getting in at the same time and learning it all together, helping each other through this period. Being able to experience these small moments, I think when these big moments come, you have an idea, the confidence and the conviction that you are all on the same page.

Being paired as first-round picks for the Bears in 2024, Odunze and Williams will be forever linked by their tenure in Chicago, a duo that many hope will be a duo that thrives for years to come. The season hasn’t gone as planned, especially with the team on a four-game losing streak, but if growth and development continues to shine for both rookies, they’ll have a lot to build on during their rookie season.
