Sanjay Raut blames ex-CJI Chandrachud for MVA’s Maharashtra dribble, says ‘history will not forgive him’

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Sunday blamed former Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud for Maha Vikas Aghadi’s poor performance in the Maharashtra Assembly elections. Raut added that history will “never forgive” Chandrachud, who recently retired from his post, alleging that he had “taken away” the fear of the law from defectors. Raut had earlier alleged foul play during the vote counting.

“Former Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud is responsible for the outcome of the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections. The results of the Maharashtra Assembly elections are shocking and unexpected. No one predicted such results. PM Modi moved the entire industry from here to Gujarat, so why would people vote for him?… If anyone is responsible for this, it is (the) former) DY Chandrachud. History will never forgive him,” he said at a press conference in Mumbai.

Shiv Sena, led by Uddhav Thackeray, managed to win only 20 of the 95 seats it contested from the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). Its alliance partners, the Congress, won only 16 of the 101 seats and the NCP (SP) got only 10 of the 86 seats it contested.

“He (Chandrachud) removed the fear of law among defectors. His name will be written in black letters in history,” Raut said. In 2022, following the split in the undivided Shiv Sena party, the party faction led by Uddhav Thackeray filed petitions in the Supreme Court regarding disqualification of party MLAs who defected with Eknath Shinde.

The Supreme Court gave the Assembly Speaker the power to rule on disqualification petitions, which he did earlier this year, declaring the Shinde-led Sena bloc as the “real political party”. Raut alleged that the results of the parliamentary elections were predetermined. Had the then CJI ruled on the disqualification petitions in time, the outcome would have been different.
