George Russell cancels flight, shares Las Vegas GP party plans | F1 | Sport

“I was planning to fly in a few hours,” he said in his post-race interview. “But I’m definitely not getting on that flight! I’m going to enjoy this evening with my whole team. It was a dream weekend. I don’t know how I was so quick but I’m just enjoying this journey right away.

“Vegas is just a crazy place. I can’t even describe this place. To get the pole, the win and the double with Lewis as well, we couldn’t have picked a better place to make it happen.”

“I was just waiting for something to happen! The two races where I’ve already been on pole have been chaos.”

Speaking on team radio shortly after the checkered flag was raised, Russell invited Wolff to join him in the celebrations.

Immediately after winning, he added: “Vegas baby! Wahooooo. Vegas! Viva! Oh again boys. Come on!”

And he was quickly congratulated by Hamilton, who may well join the group. Mercedes party after an incredible day in Nevada for the Silver Arrows.

“It was great,” said the seven-time world champion. “First of all, I have to congratulate Max on winning the championship, with several races still to go.

“If I had done my job yesterday, it would have been a breeze today. But that’s okay. I had a lot of fun coming from 10th place. The team did a fantastic job.

“We don’t know why we were so fast this weekend, but it’s the best feeling the car has ever had, so I’m grateful to have helped get to this point.”

“If the car runs like this in the next few races, I think we will be in a good position to challenge the guys in front. The championship is over, so now everything is decided, we have to fight for the best possible positions.”
