ASTANA, November 25. /TASS/. Kazakhstan is ready to discuss with the Russian delegation the potential participation of Rosatom in the construction of a nuclear power plant in the republic during the state visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Astana on November 27, the press was told Kazakh Energy Minister Almassadam Satkaliyev.

“If the Russian side raises this point, we are ready to start the discussion,” he said in response to a corresponding question. A special government commission to discuss the participation of various companies in the construction of the nuclear power plant has been created within the Kazakh government, the minister added.

On October 6, a republic-wide referendum on the construction of a nuclear power plant was held in Kazakhstan, with the majority of voters in favor of building such a plant. Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said he considered it necessary to attract a consortium of foreign companies for the construction of the nuclear power plant. Kazakh authorities had previously considered several possible suppliers of nuclear technology, including China’s CNNC, South Korea’s KHNP, Rosatom and France’s EDF.
