The Listeria outbreak has spread quickly in California, leaving health officials concerned.

On Friday, November 22, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported a deadly outbreak of listeria food poisoning linked to ready-to-eat meat and poultry products, including chicken feet. , duck neck, beef shank. and pork knuckle, sickened 10 people and killed an infant in California.

The outbreak is linked to Yu Shang Foods, a leading supplier of ready-to-eat meat products, reported AP News.

It was reported that 9 of the 11 infected people were hospitalized and the cases were reported in California, Illinois, New Jersey and New York between July 31 and October 24, 2024.

“The actual number of sick people in this outbreak is also likely higher than the number reported. This is because some people recover without medical care and are not tested for Listeria,” the CDC said.

Federal health officials also said a California woman who was pregnant with twins fell ill, leading to the death of both infants. However, only one of them had a listeria sample.

Yu Shang Food, Inc., of Spartanburg, South Carolina, has so far recalled more than 72,000 pounds of meat and poultry products related to the outbreak.
