City Police Commissioner CV Anand takes action against traffic jams

Hyderabad: City Police Commissioner CV Anand on Sunday discussed measures to streamline the chaotic flow of traffic, in a coordination meeting with top officials. Anand urged inspectors to work on solutions to ensure traffic flow.

Based on the Special Branch (SB) reports, the commissioner cautioned officers of the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police and Station House Officer who were found to be generous towards traders occupying roads and footpaths .

It is reported that an internal inquiry has been ordered against officials who had become accustomed to the monthly routine and left encroachments unattended, causing traffic jams and making it difficult for pedestrians to use footpaths, sources revealed.

It was also reported that a special team working under the commissioner has identified roads occupied by private buses and other vehicles. Operation ROPE will be implemented to remove blockages and ensure smooth traffic flow, a senior police officer said.

Private buses entering the city in violation of rules will be seized and criminal cases will be registered. “We have already started imposing fines and prosecuting violators,” the officer said.

The traffic police along with GHMC officials will take stern action as per law against those encroaching on the footpaths, he said. Anand has prepared an action plan to improve traffic flow and special trips will be organized every weekend as per the instructions of the commissioner, the officer said.
