Andhra Pradesh to set up first CBRN medical management center at VIMS in Vizag | Vijayawada News

Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh government has given approval to enter into a memorandum of understanding with the Union Health Ministry to establish a secondary level Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Medical Management Center at Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS). ) in Visakhapatnam. This will be the first such advanced facility in AP and Telangana.
A central team conducted an inspection of the VIMS site in August and expressed satisfaction with the proposed infrastructure and land for the CBRN facility. The center is being developed under the Central Sector Program to “health sector disaster preparedness and response”. THE CBRN installation will include intensive care and isolation beds, decontamination treatment facilities and showers, as well as dedicated pre- and post-operative rooms for victims of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear incidents.
VIMS Director Dr K Rambabu said the centre, once operational, would provide the best treatment to victims of such emergency situations. “The proposal is very important for Visakhapatnam, which is a major industrial hub of the state. Victims can be quickly transported to this center, which will not only treat chemical accidents, but also support biological emergencies, such as the recent Covid-19 pandemic. will have facilities to deal with chemical, biological and radiological emergencies. A separate building will be constructed on the VIMS premises to cater for nuclear emergencies under the project,” he said.
