PA Agency Areas Enhance Tourist Experience with New Attractions

Visakhapatnam: Tourists visiting the scenic areas of Alluri Sitharama Raju district this winter can expect an enhanced experience with new attractions introduced by the district administration, Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) Paderu and the Department tourism.

A newly constructed 435-metre wooden footbridge now passes through serene coffee plantations near Sunkarmetta junction between Anantapur and Araku, giving visitors a unique perspective of the landscape. The attraction is open to tourists for a nominal entry fee ranging from Rs 20 to Rs 50.

Adventure seekers can now enjoy two exciting additions to the valley’s offerings: paramotor rides along the Araku-Jeypore route and tethered hot air balloon rides at Padmapuram Gardens. Both activities have been trialled, with hot air balloon flights already attracting considerable interest from tourists.

The Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) continues to operate its famous skylining center at Ananthagiri, which has attracted strong visitor interest. Additionally, the ITDA has initiated improvements at Kothapalli Waterfalls near Chintapalli, the second most visited waterfall in the region after Chaparai.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, ITDA Project Manager V. Abhishek detailed the ongoing developments: “After our successful improvement of Chaparai Waterfalls last year, we are now focusing on Kothapalli Waterfalls. The project includes the construction of a new road, the extension of parking lots, changing rooms and illuminated concrete pathways. These improvements are expected to be completed within 15 to 20 days.

Environmental conservation remains a priority, particularly on Vanjangi Hill, where new toilets are being installed and road repairs have been completed. The area, located in a forest reserve, maintains a strict ban on plastic. Abhishek highlighted last year’s cleanup efforts in Vanjangi, where 38 workers collected 14 truckloads of plastic waste in ten days.

The ITDA is also making improvements to the famous Borra Caves under the Swadesh Darshan programme, incorporating eco-friendly facilities such as changing rooms and tent toilets. To combat plastic pollution, local hotels have been urged to sell larger water bottles and use sustainable alternatives like leaf plates and cups.

Tourist numbers have seen significant growth, with the Borra Caves alone attracting around 7,000 visitors in recent weekends, representing a substantial increase on previous years.
