Police, LG chairmen disagree over killing of 37 in fresh attack in Benue

There is a cloud of confusion over the number of residents killed in a fresh attack in Logo and Katsina-Ala local government areas of Benue State.

According to reports, as many as 30 people have been killed in some communities in the two local government areas of the state by the suspected armed herdsmen.

The attack, which began on Sunday and continued until the early hours of Monday, resulted in the recovery of 10 bodies in Kastina-Ala, while 20 bodies were recovered in Logo.

Speaking to reporters in Makurdi, the state capital, Kastina-Ala LGA Chairperson Justine Shaku said the gunmen killed many people and destroyed valuable properties in her area.

Additionally, Logo LGA President Clement Kav said the attackers had claimed ownership of his domain.

He said they claimed Tombo land belonged to them.

“They attacked the neighborhood of Tombo commune and killed 17 people and injured 37 others,” he said.

However, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Catherine Anene, said only five bodies had been recovered.

“Logo attack confirmed. Five bodies were found,” Anene said.
