Lithuania plane crash investigators see no signs of sabotage, set to examine black boxes

VILNIUS (Reuters) – Lithuania has so far found no evidence of terrorism or sabotage in its investigation into the crash of a DHL cargo plane near Vilnius airport, prosecutors said on Tuesday.

The plane’s black boxes containing flight data and voice recorders have been found and investigators are preparing to examine the items, the government later said in a statement.

The plane crashed while landing early Monday, killing one person on board. Which, according to the German Foreign Minister, could have been an accident or a hybrid attack in “times of volatility”.

The Lithuanian Prosecutor’s Office is leading one of two official investigations into the crash of the Boeing 737-400, operated by the Spanish airline Swiftair on behalf of the German logistics group.

“Our initial information does not indicate that we need to investigate more serious actions,” prosecutor Arturas Urbelis said in a statement, adding that the investigation was still ongoing.

“We may find signs of other types of activity during our investigation,” Urbelis said.
