Cynthia Erivo has opened up about the emotional journey she experienced coming out as bisexual, revealing the “trepidation” she initially felt.

In an interview on the Reigns with Josh Smith podcast, the Wicked The star opened up about how she was worried about offending people when she went public with her sexuality.

However, Erivo now feels empowered and completely at peace with her identity.

Reflecting on his decision to come out in May 2022 during an interview with British Vogue, she expressed pride in how she shared her truth.

“I feel very powerful. I feel very, very good about myself, about my body,” she said. “There is something truly wonderful about watching someone who is living, enjoying their life, working, creating and just being.”

Despite initial fears, she revealed that the weight of other people’s opinions had diminished over time.

“Sometimes you approach it with some trepidation like, ‘Are people going to agree with me?'” she said.

“But then you kind of stop caring because it’s just who I am. It’s just part of the tapestry of the human being that’s in front of you.”

THE Wicked The star shared that while her path hasn’t been without major setbacks, each struggle has contributed to her growth, helping her shed outside expectations and embrace her true self.

Reflecting on the emotional consequences of rejection and hurt, she explained that it was only by allowing these experiences to strengthen rather than diminish her that she was able to evolve.

“My life hasn’t been perfect… But if you’re willing to let those things grow you instead of shrinking you, it kind of continues to reveal different pages of who you are,” she said .

Erivo, who publicly came out as bisexual in 2022, also opened up about her conversations with Wicked co-stars Jonathan Bailey and Lena Waithe about their shared queer experiences.
