Turkey feeds hundreds of metro families on Tuesday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – For the 17th consecutive year, the Kansas City Royals are partnering with the Know Joey Foundation, with the goal of feeding hundreds of families across the Kansas City metro.

The head-to-head challenge pits 180V Barber|Salon in KCMO against Clipping 2 Please in KCK. The two hair salons compete to feed as many families as possible.

This year’s goal is to collect 1,000 frozen turkeys to be distributed during “Winning Wednesday.” Win on Wednesday because friendly competition on Tuesday will make everyone a winner on Wednesday.

The group also requests Thanksgiving side dishes such as corn, green beans and mashed potatoes.

Turkey Tuesday organizer Joey Thomas, founder of the Know Joey Foundation, says the day of giving will have an immediate impact on both sides of the border.

“For every turkey, you can feed about 10 or 20 people, so you’re talking about making 1,000 turkeys. Really, you’re talking about feeding 1,000 families, but that can feed between 10 and 20,000 people,” Thomas said. “When we talk about growth, it’s always great to see how many people are ready to invest and collaborate with Turkey on Tuesday.”

If needed, “Win Wednesday” families can connect with mental health resources while picking up their meals from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
