Experts to address the challenges and opportunities of the SDGs

Experts will convene at an upcoming climate conference to examine the challenges and opportunities for advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through meaningful partnerships.

They will speak at the 8th Annual Sustainable Development Table Series, themed: “Navigating Challenges, Leveraging Opportunities in a Reforming Economy to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals”, organized by Avant-garde Sustainability Foundation, scheduled for 28 November 2024 in Lagos. .

A statement reveals that this year’s STS will address several policy issues crucial to sustainable development, including advocating for tax policies that encourage businesses to adopt circular economy principles.

“It will promote policies to strengthen the cultural and creative industries as engines of economic growth, advocating for sustainable infrastructure projects, such as renewable energy, energy-efficient buildings and waste management systems” , indicates the press release.

He further explained that he would work to close gaps in social safety nets to ensure equitable access to resources and promote inclusive policymaking involving a range of stakeholders, including community organizations and businesses .

He noted that this year’s theme highlighted the urgent need for collaborative solutions to address Africa’s unique sustainability challenges, while paving the way for sustainable economic growth, decarbonization and climate resilience.

This year’s organizer, Temilade Denton, said: “As we face the intersecting challenges of economic growth, social responsibility and environmental preservation, we need both a bold and a set of decisive actions to chart a sustainable future.

Dignitaries expected at this year’s event include the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Consul General of Switzerland in Lagos, Frank Eggmann; Special Advisor to the Lagos State Governor on Sustainable Development Goals, Dr. Oreoluwa Finnih; Managing Director of IHS (Nigeria) Limited, Mr. Mohamad Darwish; and the First Lady of Kwara State and Chairman, Nigeria Governors’ Wives Forum, Dr. Olufolake Abdulrazaq; among others.
