BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (CMC) — The formulation and implementation of measures to strengthen collaboration and coordination to effectively address the challenges posed by transnational crimes will be among the agenda items of the meeting of security and law enforcement ministers from the Caribbean Community (Caricom) later this week. .

The two-day meeting of the Council of Ministers of National Security and Law Enforcement begins here on Thursday and will be chaired by Prime Minister Terrance Drew, who is also minister of national security, citizenship and immigration .

A government statement said Prime Minister Drew has made tackling crime regionally a top priority and this meeting is a crucial step towards achieving this goal.

“As part of Caricom’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of its member states, the council will meet to discuss and develop comprehensive strategies to combat transnational crime, which continues to pose a significant threat to region,” the statement said.

He said discussions during the two-day meeting will focus on improving intelligence sharing, strengthening border security and advancing legislative frameworks to ensure a unified and robust response to criminal activities that transcend national borders.

“Our collective security depends on our ability to work together and share resources, information and best practices. This meeting demonstrates our commitment to protecting our citizens and ensuring a safe and secure Caribbean,” Drew added:
