  • If your rape is historical, you may still be able to get help, including from the police – there is no time limit on reporting your rape and your account can still be used as evidence.

Calls to the Dublin Rape Crisis Center increased during the McGregor affair.

Managing director Rachel Morrogh said calls increased by 17% in the first 10 days of the trial, with contacts from new callers increasing by 50% in the same period.

“I think she deserves – and I think women in general deserve – absolute assurance that the DPP has really looked at this matter properly and taken the right course of action.

“I am aware that there is a distinction between a criminal charge and a civil case, and that the burden of proof is different in both.

“It’s not my place to do the DPP’s job for them, but I think it’s reasonable and I’ve heard in countless conversations women asking ‘how come, since the civil case was successful, a criminal charge was not filed?’

“And I think in the interest of public trust, it would be very helpful to have a response, a response from the DPP on this issue.”

A spokeswoman for the DPP said it did not comment on individual cases, but documents on general considerations for decisions to prosecute were available on its website.
