CSTO leaders to discuss military-political situation at Astana summit – Military and Defense

MOSCOW, November 27. /TASS/. Leaders of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) countries will discuss the military and political situation and review several documents at a summit in Astana on November 28, said CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov , to the TASS agency.

“Since the previous meeting of leaders of the CSTO member states, many issues requiring in-depth discussion have accumulated. First of all, an exchange of views on the military and political situation in the regions of collective security and their borders is expected. The leaders of our countries will evaluate the results of joint work during the reporting period and define future guidelines for cooperation,” he said.

“Among the documents submitted for consideration by the Collective Security Council, I would like to highlight the draft CSTO program aimed at strengthening the Tajik-Afghan border,” Tasmagambetov said.

He stressed that sources of serious challenges and threats to collective security remained on Afghan territory. The proposed package aims to provide CSTO member states with a much higher level of protection against these threats.

“Particular attention will be paid to preparations for the joint celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The Kyrgyz Republic will define the priorities of its CSTO chairmanship in 2025,” he added.
