The few remaining rivals to the Mazda3 include the Audi A3 sedan, Mercedes Class A Sedan And BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe. Interestingly, most of the Mazda3 Sedan’s main rivals have been discontinued, making it the most affordable of the few family hatchbacks on sale. THE Hyundai i30 Fastback is another contender in a similar price range, although it still retains a hatchback trunk and at the time of writing is no longer available to configure.

As of 2024, the Mazda3 Sedan range is incredibly simple and you don’t get the same range of options as with the more popular hatchback model. One of the real appeals of the Mazda3 Sedan is the way it drives. We think it’s just behind the Mazda3 Sedan. BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe in this department, although there’s obviously no ‘hot’ version like the 2 Series range. While all 2 Series Gran Coupe models now come with an automatic gearbox, the Mazda3 Sedan is at least still offered in a manual version, which will please some passionate drivers.

The fit and finish of the Mazda3 is truly excellent and much better than one would expect given that Mazda is not traditionally considered a “premium” brand.
