Freshman runners return, an interesting pursuit debutant and novice hurdlers to watch – Thursday’s pointers

“Punting pointers from each of today’s race meetings”. . .

Lingfield: Moore’s success at Lingfield?

Gary Moore succeeded in the 2m novice hurdles (2.55) with the useful Givega in 2022 before also having second place last year, and he and his son Josh saddle two this time in a bid for more success.

Taita Hills was last seen finishing fourth in a bumper in April last year and he is making his hurdles debut under Freddie Mitchell, while Miller Spiritwho has won five times on the Flat this year, benefits from the assistance of Niall Houlihan.

Moore said: “Taita Hills is a very good horse. He missed all of last season through no fault of his own – problems and ground – and he wants soft ground.

“He’s a very big horse and he’ll probably do two races and then go over the fences because he was placed point to point. I like him a lot but he will benefit from the race.

“Miller Spirit has probably done his part on the flat now that he’s up to 97. I think it’s a bit inflated because, without blowing the trumpet, I thought he was well positioned to win some moderate races. Touch wood, he is a very good jumper over an obstacle.

“He’s continuing smoothly on the flat and I hope he can handle the ground at Lingfield, although it doesn’t seem so bad there these days. If the horse Dan Skelton (Let It Rain) wasn’t not in the race, you ‘I should like it very strongly.

Lingfield Stats: Pauling Strike Rate

Ben Pauling saddled three winners from four runners (75 per cent strike rate) in handicap hurdles at Lingfield and a £1 stake on each of them would have returned a profit of +£57.75. He saddles I’m running right after May (12:35 p.m.) And Stardhem (2.20).

Musselburgh: Morgan ‘can’t wait’ for Wild’s hunting career

Musselburgh is a favored hunting ground for Laura Morganewith its ten winners over the last five seasons with a success rate of 30 percent.

This figure improves to 44 percent (8-18) when considering disability prosecutions, and she attempts to improve this figure when The wild side of life lines up in the 2m7½f competition (2.45).

The six-year-old showed great promise chasing Grade 1-placed Cherie D’Am on her hurdles debut and is likely to improve for fences, having gained a point and finished third of five lengths behind Ballyburn in this sphere.

Morgan said: “I’m looking forward to getting him over a fence and I think he’ll be a better horse. I think the track should suit him, he’s a good traveler and he jumps well, which he obviously has to be done on a sharp track. I hope it will be a good starting point for him.

“He was unlucky last year. When Harry Cobden rode him the ground was far too soft and I don’t think he saw the trip, while the rest of his rides were quite solid considering he’s a chaser The day Harry Reed fell at Cheltenham, it wasn’t the horse’s fault either, and I loved him that day.

Taunton: interesting reservation

Co-trainers Philip Hobbs and Johnson White are in good form, having scored with four of their last nine runners, and both look to champion jockey Harry Cobden for the first time to continue their beautiful journey.

Cobden has never driven for the partnership, nor even Hobbs before that, but he has a head start on the JP McManus-owned vehicle. Sassified in the 2m3f handicap hurdle (2.35).

The six-year-old has not scored over hurdles since October last year, but finished a good second at Wincanton last week and can benefit from the talent of Cobden, who has ridden more winners than any other jockey on the journey over the last five seasons.

Taunton statistics: best coach

Joe Tizzard has struck out with two of his three runners (67 percent strikeout rate) on the track this season. He saddles Honey Jack in the 3m novice handicap hurdles (12:15 p.m.), Siam Park in the novice hurdle 2m½f (12:50 p.m.) And Ventara in the 2m2f handicap chase race (3.10).

Thurles: return of first year runners

Willie Mullins dominated the opening 2m2½f beginner race (12.05) in recent years and is seeking his sixth consecutive victory in this contest when Monsieurgif And Western Diego align.

Mistergif looked a smart prospect when winning a maiden hurdle at Limerick by 18 lengths on his steady debut for Mullins in January and was far from disgraced as a Grade 1 at the Cheltenham Festival and Aintree Grand National Meeting .

Western Diego, last year’s seventh Champion Bumper, cleared a maiden hurdle at Fairyhouse in January and was last seen finishing third in a Grade 2 Novice at the same course in March.

During a recent tour of the Racing Post stables, Mullins said: “Mistergif is a passionate horse and hard on himself. He is by Zarak and not many of them end up over the fences, but it seems that they should suit him.

“Aubrey McMahon of Temple Bloodstock picked up Western Diego at a dispersal sale. He is studying well over fences and could prove to be one of the bargains of the season.”
