Jude Law just ruined all my dreams about the charming English cottage Cameron Diaz is staying in on vacation in one quick sentence

2006 The holidays is one of the best Christmas movies as well as one of best romantic comediesso naturally I find time to watch the movie with Jude Law, Cameron Diaz, Black Jack And Kate Winslet. But Law just ruined a dream that always comes up in my annual rewatches of the four-word modern classic when he was recently asked about the adorable cottage Winslet’s character owns in the film.

When Jude Law was a guest The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show on promotion for Star Wars: The Skeleton Crew first on Disney+ next week, he was asked about the famous English cottage where Cameron Diaz’s Amanda stays before falling in love with Jude Law’s character Graham, the brother of its owner (Kate Winslet’s Iris). Here’s the quick sentence that dashed my dreams of seeing it in person, and maybe staying there too:

This chalet does not exist.

Excuse me? Just like me, the hosts of the BBC Radio show (via Instagram) were almost traumatized by this revelation. Many famous houses from movies are often owned by real people and, if famous enough, become destinations for movie buffs. Jude Law explained why the cottage doesn’t exist with these words:

So the director is a bit of a perfectionist. (She) looked all over the area and couldn’t quite find the chocolate box cottage she was looking for. So she simply rented a field, drew it up, and asked someone to build it. But here’s the funny thing, if you watch it… So we were filming here in the winter and every time I walked through that door, we were cutting and filming the interiors in Los Angeles about three months later.

Writer/director Nancy Meyers, who also directed The parental trap with Lindsay Lohan, Something has to give And It’s complicatedhad a precise vision for the chalet The holidays. And since she couldn’t find the house she wanted for the film through location scouting, she decided to have it built for the film. In the movie business, the entire house was probably not built and was only used for exterior filming. As Law shared, whenever the characters moved into the cabin, they weren’t in the cabin at all, but on a set in Los Angeles, California. Hollywood is really wild sometimes.

When Jude Law previously spoke about The holidays has Vanity FairLaw shared that because they filmed the exteriors in London and then the interiors in Los Angeles a few months later, fans can look closely and perhaps notice that Graham is quite tan in all of his interior scenes. While this revelation certainly spoils some of the film’s fantasy, it won’t stop me from rewatching it every year, and Graham is one of them. fictional men who set my standards high.

A few years ago, there was talk of a sequel, before Nancy Meyers said it wasn’t true. Black Jack shared her own hope of returning with the cast last year, but given this reveal, I guess they’d have to rebuild the cabin if they made a second movie.
