Liverpool have been told the replacement will cost almost £150million. Mohamed Salah if the Egyptian were to leave at the end of the season – and that he now finds himself in a “difficult place” regarding the player. Salah is currently expected to leave when his contract expires next summer, with negotiations yet to result in a new deal.

The striker made public this weekend his disappointment with a formal offer had not yet come from the Reds.

And ancient Liverpool Captain and manager Graeme Souness has warned his former club that they would have to spend big money to acquire a replacement of similar standard to this one. Salah next summer.

“Replacing Mohamed Salah wouldn’t just cost Liverpool £70m, it would be double that,” he said. “Even so, there is no replacement. There is no comparable replacement capable of scoring 30 goals a season. If that were the case, you would spend well over £100 million to get them.

“The minute Liverpool come knocking, the price will be inflated because it’s Liverpool, they’re in the Premier Leagueand they are under pressure to buy. They will pay premium upon premium upon premium! They are in a difficult situation.

Souness added: “I don’t believe for one minute that Liverpool haven’t been in contact with him or his representatives. There is no benefit to Liverpool in not speaking to him.

“I wondered why he said that was the case – the cynical attitude is that he is taking it out on the club directly and giving them the choice of either saying nothing and keeping him away, or to come out and protect himself and reveal that negotiations are underway. Therefore, they would call him a liar, which would make it easier for him to leave.

Souness pointed to the recent experience of Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne to show how quickly top players can decline, and believes a compromise can be found between Salah and Liverpool to extend his tenure. Anfield commitment.

“The two best players in the Premier League over the last five years have been Salah and Kevin De Bruyne,” he said. speaking to William Hill’s Three Up Front podcast. “But with De Bruyne it’s like someone flipped a switch. Some players fall off a cliff as they get older and it’s like black and white.

“With other players it happens more slowly, but it happened to De Bruyne in the space of a year. If Liverpool give Salah a three-year contract, in a year we could have the same conversation about him than about De Bruyne.

“If I was advising Salah, I would tell him to sign for another year and then see where you are after that. If it was just about football, Salah wouldn’t be leaving Liverpool now.

“He said Liverpool was such a special club to play for and it is. Is that his main asset to stay? Ultimately, for him and for everyone to be happy, I think “He should sign for a year and see where he is after that.”
