City of Erie parking follows odd and even regulations for snowplow access

play

The City of Erie reminds residents that the odd-even parking rule is in effect until March 31. Parking is limited to one side of the street in designated areas weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Residents who reside in an odd-even section of the city are asked to immediately move their cars to the appropriate side of the street..

In a statement, the city said if it is an odd calendar day, residents should park on the north or west side of the street. If the weather is even, residents should park on the south or east side of the street.

Residents who live in a cul-de-sac must remain in their driveway.

If you don’t live in an area where there is no odd-even parking, park on the same side as your neighbors to ensure plows can pass down the middle of the street.

The city also said in an email to the Times-News that due to heavy snowfall, unnecessary travel should be avoided.

City declares snow emergency

Friday afternoon, the city of Erie declared a snow emergency.

The emergency will last all weekend. This declaration extends the odd-even parking rules posted in the city center through Saturday and Sunday, according to a news release.

City of Erie Winter Operations

During the snow removal process, all city streets are treated and cleared of snow simultaneously.

The street office switches to winter hours the first week of December. These schedules are divided into three shifts which provide coverage 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The street team consists of 43 people and additional personnel from the Paint and Sign Bureau as needed.

The city performs winter maintenance that covers more than 329 miles of linear road, which equates to the treatment and plowing of more than 600 miles of road.

The plowing routes are divided into three zones: the city center, the outlying areas and the city center.

First zone: the city center

  • The shoreline to 32nd Street, from Baur Avenue to East Avenue.
  • Odd-even parking in effect from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.
  • Plowed during the day on weekdays.
  • Generally avoided on weekends due to congested streets from on-street parking. Maintained during heavy snowfall over the weekend.

Second zone: peripheral zones

  • All areas outside the area described above.
  • Snow removal once downtown streets are clear.

Third district: Downtown

  • Dobbins Landing to East 26th Street, Holland Street to Peach Street.
  • Published: Parking prohibited from 2 a.m. to 4 a.m.
  • Plowed from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m.

Learn more about plowing zones on the the city website.
