Kalki Koechlin recently discussed the possibility of a sequel to the 2013 blockbuster “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani” (YJHD) during an interview on AfterHours with All About Eve.
The actress, who won hearts as the fiery Aditi in the film, revealed that no sequel plans were discussed. She admitted, “It will be difficult to recapture that magic,” adding that most sequels tend to be disappointing.
Fans have long speculated about a sequel to Ayan Mukerji’s coming-of-age drama, which starred Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika PadukoneKalki Koechlin and Aditya Roy Kapur. Addressing these rumors, Kalki said, “I haven’t heard any such rumors,” while emphasizing the timeless charm of the original. “You can’t make another one,” she added, referring to the deep-rooted friendship between Bunny, Naina, Aditi and Avi that resonated with the audience.
Kalki also weighed in on the fan debate surrounding Ranbir Kapoor’s character Bunny, who is often called “selfish” for prioritizing his dreams over his relationships. “I really haven’t spent a lot of time thinking about him,” Kalki said with a laugh, before jokingly admitting, “It’s terrible, isn’t it?” when the host pointed out Bunny’s tendency to avoid responsibility, including his spontaneous proposal to Naina in the climax.
“Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani” remains a cult favorite, celebrated for its portrayal of friendship, love and the aspirations of youth. However, Kalki admitted that it was difficult to live up to his legacy. “It’s rare to have a good sequel,” she concluded.
