Virginia 67, Holy Cross 41 | FINAL

Dai Dai Ames knocks down both shots from the charity stripe. Ishaan Sharma enters the game for McKneely. Andrew Rohde knocks down a floater before Power goes for a three but misses as his struggles continue. Desmond Roberts, Bryce Walker and Anthony Robinson check in for the Hoos.

Roberts knocks down both free throws. Robinson fouls and he commits both as the Hoos earn their fifth win of the season.

Virginia 59, Holy Cross 41 | 3:59 Second half

Isaac McKneely made 1/2 free throws before Caleb Kenney scored a layup, assisted by Max Green. Elijah Saunders then scored as both teams struggled to score.

Virginia 56, Holy Cross 39 | 7:16 Second half

Holy Cross scores after a Buchanan goalie responds with a dunk to correct the mistake. Kahlil Singleton shoots a three before Buchanan fouls and scores. He misses the free throw as he continues to fight for charity. A few possessions later, McKneely shot from downtown, burying his third three of the night.

Virginia 49, Holy Cross 32 | 11:55 Second half

On the way, Taine Murray rebounds it to Jacob Cofie who slams it for the Cavaliers. Holy Cross fought back with Max Green picking up an assist as the freshman guard continued to impress, tallying 16 points on the night. The Crusaders collect another bucket before Cofie sends his three flying. Rohde then knocks down a three to further extend the lead.

Virginia 44, Holy Cross 26 | 3:32 p.m. Second half

Andrew Rohde finds Isaac McKneely on the opening possession as he buries a three. Green fights back for the Crusaders as he now has 13 before Ames responds with another drive to the basket. Saunders then scores his own bucket nearby. Green scores again before Ames drains another three for the Hoos.

Virginia 34, Holy Cross 21 | Half time

Coming out of the break, Max Green hits his second three of the evening. A few possessions later, Green hit three more to cut the lead to 13 before Rohde stopped the bleeding with a bucket. Holy Cross scores in response before Cofie scores a fadeaway bucket. Caleb Kenney scores again for the Crusaders as Holy Cross comes alive in the final moments of the first half.

With the shot clock off, Saunders misses a three at the buzzer. Hoos leads at halftime.

Dai Dai Ames leads the way for the Hoos with nine points while Max Green leads all scorers with 11.

Virginia 30, Holy Cross 11 | 3:44 First half

Ames continues to add to his night with a three-pointer as he shoots 4/4 to start. McKneely then decides to drive the lane and gets the bucket and a foul, he knocks down the free throw and Virginia continues to build a sizable lead.

Virginia 24, Holy Cross 11 | 6:00 p.m. First half

Caleb Kenney ends the 11-0 streak for the Hoos by hitting a mid-range shot for the Crusaders. Dai Dai Ames responds one possession later with a pull-up jumper as he now has six points on the night. Max Greene then scored in response to try to cut Virginia’s lead.

Virginia 22, Holy Cross 7 | 8:46 a.m. First half

Tyler Boston misses both free throws for Holy Cross. Elijah Saunders then hits his first three-pointer of the night as the Cavaliers continue to shoot threes in the season opener, with Rohde hitting his second three of the day on the next possession.

Virginia 16, Holy Cross 7 | 10:45 a.m. First half

On the line, Jacob Cofie knocks down both free throws. Holy Cross responded with a layup before Ames responded on the opposing side with a layup after dribbling past several crosses. TJ Power enters the game.

On the next possession, Andrew Rohde knocked down a wide-open three to extend Virginia’s lead, but Max Green responded with a three of his own. The current lineup features a small-ball combination of Rohde, McKneely, Murray, Rohde and Buchanan.

McKneely then hits his first three of the night and his 19th of the year. Buchanan then hits a mid-range shot to further extend Virginia’s lead.

Virginia 4, Holy Cross 2 | 3:49 p.m. First half

Caleb Kenney of Holy Cross opened the scoring. A few possessions later, Elijah Saunders attacks the rim to earn the Hoos their first bucket of the evening. Virginia certainly struggled to score early as Ron Sachez turned to his bench early with Taine Murray and Jacob Cofie. Dai Dai Ames scores Virginia’s second basket of the night after a steal from Ames.

On the ensuing possession, Cofie commits a foul, he will shoot for two.
