Cold blast brings significant lake-effect snow to several states

A blast of arctic air engulfing much of the United States this weekend is bringing powerful lake-effect snow to several states, including Pennsylvania and New York, and freezing temperatures to parts of the South. Winter weather alerts, including lake effect snowfall warnings, have been issued for parts of Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York for this weekend, with some being in effect until Monday evening. As cold air passes over the relatively warm waters of the Great Lakes, significant bands of lake-effect snow are expected to blanket several communities — from Cleveland, Ohio, to Buffalo, New York — with snowfall.
