Electoral Commission calls on voters to participate in by-elections without fear

The Electoral Commission has urged all voters at different local levels, where Sunday’s by-elections are being held, to exercise their adult franchise freely and without fear.

Issuing a press release on Saturday, the commission urged voters to vote with confidence at designated polling centers from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. Voters are encouraged to participate in the vote by selecting the election symbol of their preferred candidate.

The commission said all preparations for the upcoming local by-election have been completed.

To facilitate the voting process, voters can submit original identification documents, such as voter ID cards, Nepali citizenship certificates, national ID cards, passports, registration number cards. permanent account (PAN) or driving licenses, the commission said. However, he clarified that voters must be registered on the final electoral list published by the commission in order to vote.

To ensure smooth voting process and maintain security, the Ministry of Interior has asked the district heads of the respective districts to regulate transportation outside the designated polling areas. Public holidays have been declared in the affected local units and wards to facilitate voting.

Nita Pokhrel Aryal, spokesperson for the commission, said election officers and staff have been asked to perform their duties responsibly and ensure a fear-free environment for voters. The commission called on political parties, voters, candidates, media and observers to cooperate in maintaining peace and order in polling centers.

Furthermore, the commission asked the competent authorities to take legal action against any attempt to disrupt the electoral process and ensure its smooth conduct in accordance with the laws in force.
