Buffalo Bills Stadium will receive 2 to 3 feet of snow, expect light snow at kickoff Sunday

Orchard Park, N.Y. — The Buffalo Bills stadium is expected to receive 2 to 3 feet of snow by kickoff Sunday night, with light snow expected to fall with wind chills around 17 degrees.

Lake effect snow hit parts of upstate New York, with the western area receiving the most snow. The State Thruway was closed west of Buffalo and a state of emergency was declared in several counties.

The Bills kick off Sunday at 8:20 p.m. at Orchard Park against the San Francisco 49ers.

Orchard Park will get about two to three feet of snow, said Kirk Apffel, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Buffalo office.

Lake-effect snow moves in Saturday morning and will last through the night and into Sunday, Apffel said.

By Sunday evening, the lake effect will subside and there could be just light snow, he said.

It’s expected to be 28 degrees with a wind chill of 17 degrees at kickoff, according to the weather service.

The team Friday make a request to fans interested in shoveling snow to clear the way for play.

In January 2024, the Bills stadium was buried under nearly two feet of snow when the team faced the Pittsburgh Steelers. This match was postponed from Sunday to Monday due to snow.

Buffalo Bills pay fans to shovel snow at Highmark

Workers clear snow from Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, NY, Sunday, January 14, 2024. A potentially dangerous snowstorm that hit the Buffalo area on Saturday led the NFL to push back the Bills’ playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers from Sunday to Monday. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and the NFL cited public safety concerns to justify the postponement, with up to 2 feet of snow expected to fall on the region over a period of more than 24 hours. (AP Photo | Jeffrey T.
