Here’s what to expect from the winter storm in the coming days

CLEVELAND – Snow continues to fall across Northeast Ohio this weekend, with more expected next week. The hardest hit areas are Lake, Ashtabula and Geauga counties, and in western counties we will likely start seeing snow as early as Sunday afternoon.

Here’s the latest from News 5 Meteorologist Katie McGraw:

More snow on the way! Lake effect snow warnings through Tuesday for parts of Northeast Ohio

Monitoring and warnings

  • The lake-effect snow warning for Lake and Ashtabula counties has been extended through Tuesday morning due to ongoing lake-effect snow.
  • A winter storm watch is in effect for Cuyahoga and Geauga counties from Sunday afternoon through Monday evening.

Heavy snowfall, one to two inches per hour, is likely where the snow band persists. Another foot of snow or more could fall this weekend in the warned area.
Snow totals could reach more than 12 inches each day where snow squalls persist.

Traveling along the I-90 corridor through Lake and Ashtabula counties is very perilous. Motorists should prepare for hazardous road conditions in squalls if they must travel.

According to the National Weather Service and the Ashtabula Sheriff’s Department, eastbound and westbound lanes from Highway 11 to the Ohio and Pennsylvania lines are closed.
