Director of Communications of the Ghana Football Federation (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has expressed deep disappointment over Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Speaking on Ghana’s exit from the 2025 AFCON during an interview with JoySports, Asante Twum admitted that the failure will weigh heavily on the Football Federation as it will forever remain a stain on the country’s football history .

“It hasn’t been easy, especially when history won’t forgive you. In 2004, when we were not qualified for the CAN, it was always a reference. Whenever I meet former Black Stars players, they hate discussing this particular topic.

“And 20 years later we failed to qualify again, and that happened while we were at the helm of affairs. History will not forgive us. This will always stick with us, which is the hardest thing to bear during this period,” he said.

Asante Twum further acknowledged that although Ghana has been going through a difficult phase in recent years, the country’s rich footballing heritage offers some positives.

He also appreciated the role of the media in criticizing the GFA during its moments of failure.

“There are still positives to be noted. Ultimately, we have to move on. We are a powerful football nation, but we are facing many difficulties at the moment.

“We have to sift through and retain the positive points. I listen to the radio a lot and I pick up on some of the things you (the media) are talking about. Some or most of them are extremely truthful. I take everything in good faith, because the best way to grow is to be open, accepting and accepting of views and opinions,” he added.
