Police release update after crash kills teen, leaves another fighting for life

Police have issued an update after a crash left one teenager dead and another fighting for his life. Emergency services were called to the junction of Hoole Road and Grass Wood Road on the wooden church domain on Saturday November 30.

This followed a report of a collision between a scrambler bike and a Suron electric bike. Police later confirmed that Spencer Crofts, who was riding the Scrambler bike, died at the scene. The 17-year-old’s family described Spencer as loyal and genuine, “with the biggest heart.” They added: “Always smiling and living life to the fullest. He will be missed by so many.”

The 18-year-old rider of the Suron bike suffered multiple injuries and was fighting for his life. In an update today, Monday, December 2, a spokesperson for Merseyside Police confirmed the man remained in critical condition.

According to police, there were “a number of youths in the area at the time”, and after the accident, both bikes were immediately removed by some of those present.

When police arrived on scene, they provided CPR and emergency aid to Spencer and the rider of the Suron bike until paramedics arrived. Despite concerted efforts by emergency responders to save Spencer, he died at the scene.

A joint investigation is being carried out by the Serious Collision Investigation Unit and the force’s investigation team to establish what happened. The families of the teenagers involved in the accident are being supported by specially trained officers. Forensic examinations are underway, door-to-door investigations and CCTV examinations are underway.

Local police officers will provide reassurance to the area and will be supported by officers from the Targeted Policing Team and officers from the Merseyside Police Matrix team.

Chief Inspector Charlotte Irlam said: “Our thoughts are with the family of Spencer Crofts, who died following last night’s collision and I would like to take this opportunity to appeal to members of the public who have information that may help us in our investigations. To establish how this young man lost his life, an 18-year-old man also suffered multiple serious injuries and remains in critical condition in hospital.

The inspector added: “We know there were a number of young people in the area at the time of the incident, and some of them removed the scrambler bike, described as red and black, and a bicycle electric Suron A search of the area was carried out and a scrambler bike was found, examinations are underway to establish if it was one of the bikes involved in the collision.

“I urge young people who were in the area to do some soul searching and contact us. Spencer and the other young man involved in this collision may have been your friends and you would surely like us to be able to tell the families why and how this happened. They will need answers in the future and you may be able to help us do that.

“If you saw what happened or have any information that could help us with our investigations, please contact us. If you live in the area or were passing by at the time, please review your CCTV/dashcam footage to see if you captured anything, even if it seems small or insignificant, as it could be vital to our investigation. »
