Grand Prairie ISD could fire superintendent tonight

The Grand Prairie ISD school board may consider firing its superintendent now that its order preventing him from doing so has been rescinded.

Jorge Arredondo was placed on paid leave in early September due to unspecified allegations that he violated board policy. He had been on the job for about two months.

Arredondo sued the district and administrators in October, alleging that he was denied the opportunity to defend himself against their allegations. In his lawsuit, he said the district violated his contractual and constitutional rights. He obtained a temporary restraining order preventing administrators from considering his termination, but that order was overturned when GPISD sought the case. be transferred to the Federal Court.

At a special meeting Monday evening, the board will meet behind closed doors to discuss the matter and then “consider and take possible action regarding the employment of the superintendent, including the proposed termination.”

KERA contacted attorneys for Arredondo and the district, but did not receive a response.
