I finally watched Man Vs. Bee with my kids, and we had two completely different experiences

You never really know what kind of experience you’ll have watching something with your kids. I recently experienced this while digging The man against the beeTHE Rowan Atkinson Netflix series it looked a lot like the actor’s iconic character, Mr. Beanbut with more words. This show is something I wanted to watch with my Netflix subscription for two years, but only recently did the family finally get the chance to cross it off our list.

And let me tell you, my kids and I had two completely different experiences watching this series of 10 unfortunate events unfold as Atkinson’s house guard character went to great lengths to kill a pesky bee. With hilarity, anxiety, valuable life lessons, and cherished memories made in the process, it was an adventure none of us will forget…for better or worse.

My children laughed all the time

Like most kids ages four to eight, my daughters and son are big fans of physical comedy, which made The man against the bee a perfect spectacle to watch. From the first time Trevor Bingley (Atkinson) crossed paths with the bee to the very end of this surprisingly short series (each episode is around 10 minutes long), my kids were laughing, sometimes hysterically, throughout of this series. great Netflix comedy series.

A man falling in dog poop? Big laughs. How about an important manual containing all the information needed for daily functions of the state-of-the-art home that gets burned in a kitchen accident? Loud laughter. Priceless works of art destroyed? You guessed it, laughter everywhere.

And while it was fun to watch my kids laugh out loud and try to recreate some of Trevor’s funniest moments, I was nervous throughout each episode.

But I spent most of Man Vs. Bee wanting to call my therapist

Let me tell you, I was pretty nervous the whole time. The man against the beeand I found myself constantly tiptoeing between bursts of laughter and a nervous breakdown. It was never extreme enough to make me say, “Kids, we’re turning this off,” or anything like that, but it put me on edge more than most family comedies. And there were several times when I thought I should call my therapist and discuss my nervousness.

When the balloon stopped the library door from closing, I immediately started thinking about worst-case scenarios (which ultimately came true). When Trevor put the manual on the burner for some reason, I was biting what was left of my nails. When the house finally caught fire, I had nothing left.

But don’t let it sound like I hate The man against the bee or was a complete wreck after each episode, as the humor as well as the charm of Rowan Atkinson’s character made it a delight.

As soon as an episode ended, my kids would yell at me to press play

As is the case with all those great binge-worthy shows on NetflixThe streaming service’s interface doesn’t give you much time to make a decision whether to press play or move on before the next episode begins. In the case of The man against the beemy kids wasted no time and started yelling at me to press play so they wouldn’t have to wait those extra five seconds for the next chapter to start. I mean, as soon as that little prompt popped up, they jumped up and yelled “Press play”, leaving me with quite a decision to make. Even my youngest, who can’t even read the entire message. Just screams an advanced toddler.

My kids just couldn’t get enough of the show and wanted to see how things would escalate for Trevor’s story, but more importantly, to see the destruction of the house. And given that we were watching them so early in the evening and all their homework was already done, I was running out of excuses to push back on their requests (let’s be real, these weren’t pleas at this point).

But I would stop for a moment and ask “Are you sure?”

Despite all this, sometimes I would leave the series, return to The man against the bee title page, and asking my kids if they really wanted to watch another episode. Every time this happened, my kids would immediately jump up and scream “Yes” over and over again, leaving me no other choice.

At the same time, I was also wondering, “Are you sure?” ” because I knew how much the show was getting on my nerves and making me a little more nervous than usual on a weeknight. However, I didn’t want to spoil a great experience with my kids because I felt more nervous than usual and pressed play every time.

Overall, it was a fun (and sometimes anxiety-inducing) experience for the whole family

Overall I watch The man against the bee with the whole family is one of those fun TV experiences that I won’t soon forget. I hope my children keep it as they grow up. With our busy schedules, finding time to sit down and watch something that all five of us will enjoy is a feat that’s becoming increasingly difficult these days, so I’ll take my victories where I can. And despite everything, it was a winner.

Yes, there were some chaotic and anxiety-inducing moments along the way, but it was also a lot of fun, and I’m a little disappointed that I waited so long to check it out. Like many of them great comedies for kidsthe show was also full of hilarious, chaotic and unforgettable moments, even though I felt my blood pressure rise at times.

However The man against the bee was canceled and we will never see Trevor fight this pesky bug in the future, there are many more to come Netflix Movies and Shows 2025 I hope it brings as much fun, laughter, and (small and manageable) bouts of nervousness to my house very soon.
