After incumbent MP and New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate Lydia Alhassan was spotted distributing food parcels to voters participating in the special vote, tensions are high in Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency.

The MP distributed food to voters queuing at Legon police station, one of the designated special polling places in the constituency, with the help of her team.

John Dumelo, National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate from the constituency, denounced the act as illegal and against the regulations of the Electoral Commission (EC).

Dumelo fiercely opposed this, saying such behavior undermines the fairness of the process. He added that he could carry out comparable actions on a much larger scale if he wished.

“Why are you sharing food with other people waiting in line? What are you doing? Does this imply that we can’t also share food? We can also agree, but let’s respect Electoral Commission regulations If you share food, we have no idea what’s in it, and you share with those in the queue who haven’t voted yet. share nothing with them.

“What kind of ignorance is this? Why? Don’t they believe we can succeed? We are capable of doing much worse.” He warned: “They shouldn’t even try us.”

Dumelo, meanwhile, was optimistic about his chances of winning the constituency seat in elections scheduled for December 7 ahead of the vote.

In an interview with Citi News, Dumelo said he was happy with how the voting process went and reiterated his belief that he would win when the results were announced.
